Ball Warm-Up in Pairs with Activation
Progressive warm-up in pairs: passing combined with dynamic mobility, controls with lateral movement and a final activation with short sprints to a central cone.
Step 1Pase y movilidad
1 / 3
Pase raso al compañero y movilidad dinámica hasta el cono central y vuelta.
Objective
Raise body temperature and activate the muscles progressively by combining passing technique, dynamic mobility and short changes of pace.
Organisation
30x20 m area. Pairs facing each other 10 m apart with a cone at the midpoint of each pair and one ball per pair. 8 m between pairs so lateral movements do not interfere. No goalkeepers.
Development
- 1Block 1 (3 min): first-time ground passes while the player without the ball performs dynamic mobility (high knees, heel flicks, lunges) to the cone and back.
- 2Block 2 (3 min): the receiver takes a directional touch and returns with the second touch; then both players shuffle 3 m sideways in each direction and return to position.
- 3Block 3 (3 min): waist-high passes with thigh and chest control, alternating the kicking foot.
- 4Block 4 (3 min): after each pass, both players sprint to the central cone, stop and backpedal to their start position.
- 5Finish with 4-6 progressive 10 m accelerations without the ball.
Coaching points3
- Increase intensity progressively: mobility first, speed later.
- Accurate passes to feet from the first minute to switch on technical concentration.
- Decelerate with short steps and a low centre of gravity on the sprints to the cone.
Common mistakes2
- Starting the sprints at full intensity before completing the mobility work.
- Careless passes that break the rhythm and force players to chase the ball.
Variations2
- Do blocks 1 and 2 alternating hand and foot (throw and volleyed return).
- Add a third player to each group to pass in a triangle with movement.
Progressions1
- Add a reactive component: the player sprints to the cone on a visual cue from the partner.
Regressions1
- Reduce the distance between partners to 6 m and drop the sprint block with young players.
Tips
- Time each block with a stopwatch so the whole group switches together.
- Finish the warm-up with two minutes of rondo if the session is possession-based.
