Catching is the goalkeeper's foundation: here you will find drills for hand position, the high W catch, the mid scoop and the low catch with the knee, with progressions from static to moving and under opposition.
Classic low-diving progression: the keeper learns the collapse mechanics from the ground (sitting and kneeling), repeats it from a squat and finishes standing, always with alternating service to both sides.
The keeper advances from the line to two discs, catches a volley from the coach and distributes by hand (roll, javelin or overarm) into mini goals or to knock balls off cones placed along the sides of the box.
Combined speed-and-handling circuit: two forward hurdle jumps, a quick run around a pole and a front catch; backpedal, fast lateral steps through the ladder, a second pole and two serves (catch and low deflection) before defending a cone goal.
20x15 m area with two servers at the top and two 4 m goals at the bottom: each keeper takes three serves (low, midriff and overhead) and then tries to beat the keeper in the opposite goal by rolling the ball along the floor.
Line of cones parallel to the goal with a hurdle at each end: the keeper jumps the hurdle side-on, performs quick feet through the cones and, on reaching the different-coloured middle cone, receives the serve and catches.
5x10 m grid: the keeper sprints up the outside, gets set and scoops a rolled ground ball from the coach; then backpedals down the side and shuffles across the end line to repeat on the other side.
Basic handling progression in pairs: the keeper kneels and receives balls above waist height with W hands, progresses to standing and finishes by turning from a side-on position into the set position.
First kneeling and with balls thrown by hand, correcting hand position (thumbs together for the high catch). Then standing, with footwork and finally with real shots at different heights.
